Rainfall in parts of south Kashmir and eastern Jammu eased on Thursday, with the Meteorological Department forecasting a prolonged spell of pleasant, sunny weather from Friday that could last until 25 September. A MeT official said the current rain was the brief deterioration expected around 15-16 September. "Overall, from tomorrow we will have pleasant weather for the next five-six-seven days," he said. Daytime temperatures are predicted to be two to three degrees above normal, but night temperatures will remain two to three degrees below normal. Gulmarg recorded a low of 5.6°C. The official reported light snowfall only in the very highest reaches, calling it insignificant and noting it had converted back to rain.
