Jane Street, the giant trading firm, posted roughly $15 billion in losses in July, its first monthly slump in about a decade, as AI-focused hedge fund Situational Awareness suffered margin calls and dragged down asset prices, a person familiar said. The losses were partly driven by its investment in Situational Awareness and wrong-way bets in Asian markets. Despite the setback, Jane Street has generated more than $40 billion of net trading revenue so far this year, surpassing its record in 2025. The firm is refinancing $14.6 billion of debt and said it has reduced risk in the affected areas.
