# Jayaram and Simran reunite for new rom-com film 2026-08-23T15:28:08+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Actors Jayaram and Simran are set to star together as leads for the first time in a new romantic comedy film directed by SY Gauthamraj. The film's pooja ceremony was held on Sunday. Their only previous collaboration was in the 2002 film Panchathanthiram, directed by Kamal Haasan and KS Ravikumar. The untitled film also features Ponvel of Vaazhai fame, Devika Sathish, and Bhagavathi Perumal. Produced by K Vijay Pandi and Shanjan G, the film is presented by actor Arya's The Show People banner. The makers describe it as a story exploring relationships between the Gen Z and 90s generations. On the technical side, the film has cinematography by Deepak, music by Achu Rajamani, editing by Arul E Siddharth, and art direction by Mahendran. Jayaram has had three releases this year, while Simran was last seen in Tourist Family and will next appear in Dharman alongside Rajinikanth. ## Indian Opinion Analysis This project pairs two actors from different industry generations: Jayaram, a veteran of over 200 films, and Simran, a top heroine of the 1990s and 2000s, marking a rare lead pairing. Director SY Gauthamraj previously delivered a hit with Jyotika-starrer Raatchasi, so the film's commercial prospects are being watched. The rom-com theme of inter-generational relationships is a tested formula in Tamil cinema. The film has no announced release date yet, but production has begun. ## Coverage - cinemaexpress.com Straightforward announcement of a film project with no editorial slant.
