# Jharkhand students demand CBI probe amid 16-day stir, sixth round of talks today

The Jharkhand government will hold a sixth round of talks at 12 noon on Sunday with student groups protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). Five rounds of talks over the weekend failed to break the 16-day deadlock. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, on hunger strike for a week, saw his blood glucose level drop to 53 around 3 am on Sunday. Doctors said his condition was stable but that he had refused hospitalisation. The JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch has accused the government of "political manoeuvring" by holding separate meetings with different organisations. The protesters are demanding cancellation of the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination and a probe by the CBI, CID, or a panel of retired high court judges from outside the state. The CID has arrested 19 people so far. A march to the Assembly is planned for August 10 if demands are not met.
