Student protests against alleged irregularities in Jharkhand's recruitment examinations entered their 21st day on Friday, with activists planning a 'Tiranga Yatra' on Independence Day to maintain pressure. JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, on hunger strike for 13 days, warned from his hospital bed against attempts to divert the movement. The JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch is demanding cancellation of JPSC and JSSC exams, a CBI inquiry, and stricter laws against exam malpractice. The state CID has intensified its probe, arresting 20 people including former JPSC chairperson L. Khiangte. An FIR was registered against 300 unidentified persons after violence during a march on 10 August. Chief minister Hemant Soren has promised to cancel the 14th JPSC examination and accused the BJP of exploiting the agitation. Fourteen police personnel were injured in the clashes.
