# Jharkhand student leader’s health worsens as government opens fresh talks

The health of Devendra Nath Mahto, a student leader on an indefinite hunger strike over alleged JPSC exam irregularities, deteriorated early Sunday. Doctors found his blood glucose low. Higher and Technical Education Minister Sudivya Kumar spoke to him on video call and urged him to end the fast, promising a resolution. Minister Dipika Pandey Singh also appealed. Mahto said he would decide only after delegates return from the talks. The Jharkhand government began its sixth round of talks with student groups on Sunday, the 16th day of protests. Earlier meetings failed to break the deadlock. The JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, which is leading the agitation, has called the government's moves 'political manoeuvring'. Protesters have announced a march to the Assembly on August 10 if their demands are not met by Sunday.
