# Jharkhand police lathi-charge job aspirants during assembly march in Ranchi

Police in Ranchi used batons, tear gas and water cannons on Monday to disperse thousands of job aspirants marching to the Jharkhand assembly to protest alleged recruitment exam irregularities. The demonstrators, marking the 17th day of their agitation and the 51st birthday of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, breached multiple barricades. Several protesters claimed injuries, while police said a section of the crowd turned violent and pelted stones. Over 1,500 personnel from the RAF, IRB and district police were deployed. JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, on a nine-day fast, joined the march in an ambulance. The agitators are demanding cancellation of several JPSC and JSSC exams and a CBI or retired high court judges' probe. State minister Sudivya Kumar accused the BJP of hijacking the protest for political ends, noting the government has met 95 per cent of demands. The BJP's youth wing called it a black day for democracy. Talks have failed to break the deadlock.
