# Jharkhand students cut cake for CM’s birthday in exam protest

Police in Ranchi used water cannons, tear gas and batons on Monday as thousands of job aspirants breached barricades during a march to the Jharkhand Assembly over alleged irregularities in recruitment exams. The protest coincided with Chief Minister Hemant Soren's 51st birthday, with students sarcastically cutting a cake for him at the protest site. One protester dressed as Spider-Man, calling it a Gen-Z style of demonstration. After nine days on hunger strike, JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto joined the march on a stretcher and was later hospitalised with critically low blood sugar. Police arrested former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte. The protesters demand cancellation of several exams and a CBI probe. The government says 95% of demands have been met and accused the BJP of hijacking the agitation.
