Jawaharlal Nehru University professor emerita Zoya Hasan’s planned Independence Day address at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Delhi was cancelled shortly before the event, with the school citing security concerns. Hasan was due to speak on “Why Pluralism Matters”. Parents told The Times of India that protesters identified as Vishwa Hindu Parishad members gathered outside the gate. The VHP denied involvement but welcomed the cancellation. Delhi Police said it had not stopped anyone from speaking and had visited only to check the situation. The school said it invited another guest, while Hasan and Sahmat alleged pressure from protesters and criticised the police response.
