The Assam Tribune reports that the cases emerged from a review of recruitment records from 2022 to 2026 and verification requests by agencies. The individuals were linked to the BSF, ITBP, CISF and CRPF. Officials found that some certificate numbers matched different documents and that some applicants also used forged caste certificates. The district administration has sent FIRs and verification findings to the recruiting agencies and concerned battalions. Jorhat had found six similar cases in June. Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Bora suspects software or artificial intelligence tools may have helped create or alter documents, but said officials’ involvement had not been established.
