# Judges, collector urge public vigilance against human trafficking

District authorities in Andhra Pradesh marked World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on Thursday with calls for greater public vigilance. In Chittoor, DLSA Chairperson and Senior Civil Judge MS Bharati said awareness is essential to prevent trafficking of women and children. She noted that crimes such as sexual exploitation, bonded labour and illegal organ trade continue despite technological progress. She urged people to report suspicious activity to the police. In NTR district, collector Dr G Lakshmisha released an anti-trafficking awareness poster and disbursed Rs 6.60 lakh as immediate rehabilitation assistance to 22 bonded labourers rescued from a brick kiln in May 2025. He warned that fraudsters target youth through social media with fake job offers. Officials from both districts cited provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and POCSO Act as deterrents.
