# Cauvery water dispute hearing in Supreme Court moved to August 17

The Supreme Court on Wednesday (August 12) adjourned the hearing on the Cauvery water dispute to August 17, as Justice Vikram Nath, who was presiding over the bench, is down with viral fever. Chief Justice Surya Kant made the announcement during an oral mention by the DMK, which had filed a separate application seeking the release of 7,000 cusecs of water daily to save crops in Tamil Nadu's delta districts. Tamil Nadu is seeking a direction to Karnataka to comply with a CWMA order of July 30 to release 3,500 cusecs for 15 days. Karnataka has decided to wait for the court's outcome before deciding, with minister Ramalinga Reddy saying the state may appeal an adverse order. The Karnataka cabinet is expected to discuss the issue on Thursday.
