Shani Jayanti will also celebrated on this auspicious day of Jyestha Amavasya. Shani Dev, the lord of justice and karma was born on this auspicious day. Lord Shani is one of the most powerful planets as he is the son of Lord Surya and Mata Chhaya. He gives the reward or punishment according to the life’s action of a person.

On this specific day, a diya with mustard oil must be lit beneath a peepal tree, and the mantra “Om Sham Shanaishcharaye Namah” must be chanted in order to appease Lord Shani.

For Hindus, Amavasya holds immense religious, spiritual and astrological significance. Prayers are offered to ancestors and forefathers on this day. Every month on Amavasya, individuals perform a variety of puja rituals in order to seek the blessings of their ancestors.
