A Kanniyakumari student who missed MBBS and BDS counselling in Chennai was allotted a medical seat over a video call on Thursday, in what officials call a first for the selection committee under the Directorate of Medical Education. The student, ninth under the ex-servicemen ward quota, was absent during roll call at the counselling venue. When contacted by phone, he said he did not know counselling was scheduled that day.
