The 12-hour Karnataka bandh called by pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj against the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) order to release 12,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu received a mixed response on August 13. While life in Bengaluru and Mysuru remained largely unaffected, with schools, shops, and public transport running normally, intense protests broke out in Mandya district, where farmers blocked highways and held symbolic demonstrations. Banks remained open as per the RBI holiday calendar. Vatal Nagaraj was detained by police in Bengaluru before he could lead a rally. Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the government would protect farmers' interests while abiding by court orders. The bandh, which began at 6 am and ends at 6 pm, saw heavy police deployment across the state.
