Karnataka's food safety department on Sunday seized and destroyed 132 kg of food items from five Bengaluru hotels, including rotten meat with fungus, spoiled vegetables, and used cooking oil. Skyye lounge at UB City was sealed after officials found 45 kg of rotten chicken and beef, vegetable cutlets, and 15 litres of used oil. Other hotels hit were Royal Chain Hotel (55 kg of duck and fish), Madras Kitchen (5 kg green peas), Tescon Hotel (5 kg mushrooms), and Senchez Hotel (3 kg fish plus cooked food). The action follows a wider crackdown: on Friday, 30 teams inspected 26 three-star and five-star hotels and collected 35 samples for lab testing. Violations included expired products, fungal growth, unhygienic storage, and improper segregation of veg and non-veg food. Separately, Maharashtra FDA inspected 63 Mumbai restaurants between August 4 and 6, suspending licences of seven and issuing notices to 38.
