The Karnataka Health Department formed 30 special teams to inspect hotels and eateries across Bengaluru after complaints and viral social media videos about unhygienic food. On August 7, 2026, officials inspected 26 three-star and five-star hotels and collected 35 food samples. They seized 76 kg of meat, 200 kg of vegetables, 32 litres of expired milk and 105 kg of other expired food items. Violations included fungal growth on vegetables, improper labelling and failure to separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian storage. Notices were issued to food business operators and adjudication proceedings have been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
