Karnataka launches Digital Detox Initiative

The Karnataka government on Tuesday launched a programme that seeks to address digital dependency and encourage balanced technology use.

The programme, Digital Detox Initiative (DDI) – Beyond Screens, focuses on reducing digital addiction through structured interventions.

The initiative will offer structured solutions through short, medium, and long-term objectives. It will provide immediate support for those struggling with digital addiction, as well as integrate digital detox programmes into mainstream healthcare, the IT-BT department said.

Developed in partnership between the Karnataka government and the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), and powered by Kahamind Healthcare, the initiative will raise awareness and formulate research-driven strategies to address the issue at both individual and community levels, it said.

IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge emphasised the goals of the initiative to ensure the well-being of citizens. “As a firm believer of balance in our digital lives, I always say, ‘sunlight before screen light’ … This initiative will address the often ignored challenges of digital addiction,” he said.

AIGF chief executive Roland Landers said the industry’s role is important in fostering responsible digital engagement. “DDI reinforces AIGF’s commitment to responsible gaming and mental well-being and that this collaboration with the government is a crucial step toward setting a benchmark for the digital industry,” he said.
