This year they dug 180 pits, each holding up to 340 litres, collectively recharging 61,200 litres of water per filling. The initiative runs from June to August with students digging standard 3ft x 2ft x 2ft pits near homes, on school grounds and along roadsides. Mentor teacher Roshan Pinto said the project reduces runoff, recharges groundwater and eases summer water scarcity. Students participate as part of the practical science curriculum on rainwater harvesting.
