# KC Guru’s Lightweight Baby is a Tamil romantic comedy 2026-08-19T18:07:31+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Director KC Guru, who made his debut with the Kannada film Cyanide Mallika in 2021, is set to release his sophomore effort Lightweight Baby in Tamil. The romantic comedy stars Vikkals Vikram, known for his social media skits and Bigg Boss Tamil, and debutant Arthy Krishna, a professional bodybuilder. The film revolves around a relationship between a stand-up comedian and a female bodybuilder, aiming to address the stigma and stereotyping faced by the latter. Guru says the casting of Vikram and Krishna, who brought their real-life experiences to the roles, led him to make the film in Tamil despite being based in Bengaluru. The title is a reference to legendary bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman's catchphrase, which Guru describes as a philosophy for life, urging people to push past obstacles. The film is set to hit theatres soon. ## Indian Opinion Analysis KC Guru's shift from Kannada to Tamil cinema after one film is unusual but strategic: by casting a Tamil stand-up comedian and a Malayali bodybuilder who fits the role physically, he sidesteps the need for prosthetics or digital enhancement. The choice also taps into the larger Tamil audience via OTT and satellite rights. What remains to be seen is whether a niche premise, romance between a comedian and a female bodybuilder, can draw crowds beyond multiplexes. The film's release date will be a key indicator of its commercial prospects. ## Coverage - cinemaexpress.com Straightforward interview piece with no political slant, focuses on creative choices.
