# Kerala opposition leader’s flood scheme faces FCRA probe

The Kerala government is legally examining a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) report that says Manappat Foundation violated Rule 19 of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) while running the Punarjani flood rehabilitation scheme for Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan's constituency in Paravoor, The Hindu reports. The VACB has recommended a CBI inquiry into the NGO's chairperson, Ameer Ahammed, over "numerous suspicious transactions amounting to ₹1.22 crore". Mr Satheesan denies any wrongdoing, saying he did not handle the funds. The Congress calls the move a "political witch-hunt", while the CPI(M) says it will politically weaponise the case. Mr Ahammed welcomes a CBI probe and insists all transactions were "above board, accounted, audited and on record".
