# Kerala to appoint sub-inspectors as heads of 419 police stations

Kerala will launch its ‘My Police Station’ reform on August 15, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala announced. Sub-inspectors will become Station House Officers in 419 of the state’s 484 law and order police stations. Circle inspectors will continue to head 64 strategically important stations, while a Deputy Superintendent of Police will lead the Mullaperiyar station. The reform aims to make stations more accessible, accountable and citizen-friendly, while eliminating custodial deaths and torture. Newly appointed SHOs and supervisory officers will receive training. About 200 police circles will be created for supervision. The Janamaithri Suraksha Project will be revamped, and monthly public feedback will guide corrective action. Women sub-inspectors will head 63 stations.
