Corroboration: 2 independent outlets

Prithviraj Sukumaran's Malayalam action thriller Khalifa collected Rs 1.9 crore net in India on day three, a 21% drop from Friday's Rs 2.4 crore, taking the three-day total to Rs 9.65 crore. Koimoi reports the film, made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, has recovered only 24% of its investment. M9.news reports the worldwide gross at approximately Rs 31 crore, calling the film a big disaster in the US market. Koimoi notes that Khalifa has surpassed the lifetime collection of Ashakal Aayiram (Rs 3.45 crore) and is eyeing the Rs 10.13 crore mark of Mollywood Times. To enter the top ten Mollywood grossers of 2026 in India, the film must beat Prakambanam (Rs 15.35 crore). Prithviraj's next release is Daayra, a Hindi film co-starring Kareena Kapoor, directed by Meghna Gulzar, slated for September 18, 2026. M9.news frames this as a last chance for the actor to bounce back before SS Rajamouli's Varanasi arrives next year.

## Indian Opinion Analysis

Both outlets frame Khalifa as a commercial failure, but differ in emphasis. Koimoi leads with day-wise drops and budget recovery percentage, treating the film's performance as a disappointing but measurable underperformance. M9.news leads with the US disaster label and adds the context of a series of flops for Prithviraj, intensifying the negative narrative. Neither reports any positive critical or audience reaction. The balanced reading is that the film is underperforming against its budget, but Koimoi's numbers show a front-loaded opening, not a total washout. The actor's box office viability now hinges on Daayra's September release.
