# Kharge credits Congress, attacks BJP-RSS on Independence Day

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday credited the party’s governments with building modern India and accused the BJP and RSS of dividing people. Speaking at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi on the 80th Independence Day, Kharge cited Jawaharlal Nehru’s institutions, Lal Bahadur Shastri’s role in the green and white revolutions, and Indira Gandhi’s contribution to India’s military strength and the creation of Bangladesh. Kharge also backed young people protesting against government policies, saying peaceful protest is a constitutional right and protesters are not anti-national.
