# Kiran Rao mourns cat Miri after son Azad’s tearful video goes viral 2026-08-17T08:08:01+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Filmmaker Kiran Rao has announced the death of her family cat Miri, describing her as "one hella cool cat" who "has our hearts forever." In an emotional Instagram post on Sunday night, Rao wrote that Miri "left us yesterday to bask in eternal sunshine and have an endless supply of birds and critters to chase." She recalled that Miri was named for her "peppery coat," was a "consummate hunter" who liked to drink from nice glasses and used the building elevator. Rao said Miri is now resting on the family farm, "surrounded by birdsong." The tribute comes days after Rao, her former husband Aamir Khan, and their son Azad Rao Khan were spotted at a Mumbai pet clinic on August 15. A video from outside the clinic showed Aamir carrying a cat carrier while Azad was visibly upset, wiping his tears. Both parents appeared distressed. Hindutsan Times reports that the video had left fans concerned about the family pet. Rao's last directorial project was Laapataa Ladies in 2024. Aamir Khan produced the Sunny Deol-starrer Batwara 1947, which released on August 14 and has collected just over Rs 37 crore worldwide. ## Coverage - hindustantimes.com This story was synthesised by AI from the source linked above.
