The incident took place near the exit gate of the Suruchi Sangha pandal in New Alipore between 11 pm and 11.30 pm on Saturday, 17 October, during crowd-control duty. A video of the incident went viral on social media. The volunteer filed a written complaint, leading to a case under Section 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime, Kunal Aggarwal confirmed the arrest and said departmental proceedings have been initiated. The Times of India reports that the accused was suspended, Rediff notes the video's authenticity remains unverified. Further investigation is underway. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both outlets report the arrest neutrally, but differ slightly in emphasis. The Times of India leads with the accused's suspension and departmental proceedings, foregrounding the police response. Rediff, citing PTI, places greater weight on the caveat that the viral video's authenticity is unverified. Neither outlet carries critical questioning of institutional safeguards. The balanced reading is that the arrest itself is undisputed, while the evidence base rests on a written complaint and a video whose provenance neither outlet challenges. No next step is named beyond 'further investigation is underway.' ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 2 neutral - timesofindia.indiatimes.com (neutral report) Straight reporting of arrest, suspension, and departmental action. - rediff.com (neutral report) PTI-sourced report with unverified video caveat.
