# Koyambedu to host special market for Ayudha Pooja from Oct 14 2026-10-13T19:56:09+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet The Koyambedu Wholesale Market Management Committee will set up a special market for Ayudha Pooja essentials across 1.5 acres of the parking area at the foodgrains market complex in Chennai. The market will operate from October 14 to 23, selling items such as puffed rice, beaten rice, banana saplings, festoons and pumpkins. Signboards and loudspeaker announcements will help visitors locate the market. The committee will provide drinking water and toilets, and deploy officials on rotation to monitor arrangements and regulate vehicle movement to prevent congestion. A consultative meeting was held on Monday, 12 October 2026, led by S.P. Karthika, CEO of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, with traders' representatives and officials from the market management committee, police, Fire and Rescue Services, Greater Chennai Corporation and Chennai Metro Rail Limited. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The special market consolidates Ayudha Pooja vendors into a single, managed location, which should ease the usual festival-season crowding and traffic around Koyambedu. The involvement of multiple agencies, from the CMDA to Metro Rail and Fire Services, points to a coordinated effort to handle the expected rush. The committee's focus on basic amenities and rotational monitoring suggests last year's complaints about congestion and poor facilities drove this year's planning. Whether the 1.5-acre parking lot is large enough for the demand will be tested over the 10-day sale period. ## Coverage - deccanchronicle.com Straight announcement of market plans with no editorialising.
