Latha Rajinikanth said at a Chennai event that her husband will honour his 2002 promise to donate Rs 1 crore for the Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar river linking project as soon as work begins. The project aims to divert surplus water from the Cauvery and Vellar rivers to drought-prone districts including Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi. The government has allocated Rs 150 crore for the project, but farmers argue that more funds are needed.
