# Lok Sabha panel finds Justice Varma guilty on all charges

A Lok Sabha-appointed panel has found all three charges against former Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma proved, in a report tabled in Parliament on Wednesday. The committee, headed by Supreme Court judge Justice Aravind Kumar, ruled that Varma failed to explain the presence, source, or ownership of a large quantity of Rs 500 notes found in a storeroom at his official Delhi residence after a fire in March 2025. It also found that material evidence was disturbed before lawful inspection and that his explanations were evasive and lacking in candour. Justice Varma resigned in April 2026, but the government is considering continuing impeachment proceedings in the Winter Session to set a precedent, sources said. The panel specifically declined to find proof that Varma personally removed the cash, but drew an adverse inference from his refusal to testify under oath.
