# Lok Sabha passes Tribunals Reforms Bill 2026 without debate

The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the Tribunals Reforms Bill 2026 by voice vote amid Opposition protests, without debate. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the Bill as Opposition MPs demanded Home Minister Amit Shah’s presence over police action against student protesters on July 20. The House was later adjourned until Tuesday. The Bill creates a National Tribunals Commission (NTC) to oversee appointments, performance and disciplinary matters for 16 tribunals, including the Central Administrative Tribunal, Securities Appellate Tribunal, National Green Tribunal and NCLAT. The NTC will have a chairperson (a former Supreme Court judge or High Court chief justice) and four members. The Bill repeals the 2021 Tribunals Reforms Act after the Supreme Court struck down key provisions over judicial independence concerns. The proposed commission is estimated to cost Rs 27.14 crore.
