# Lower or nil TDS certificates to go fully online soon

The Income Tax Department is preparing rules to let taxpayers apply online for lower or nil TDS certificates. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Lok Sabha the enabling rule, introduced through the Finance Act 2026, is being framed and will be notified soon. The application will be processed using existing data such as tax returns, AIS, TIS and Form 26AS. Certificates will be issued electronically if conditions are met; mismatched data may lead to rejection. Chaudhary also said the department disposed of 2.24 lakh appeals in FY26, up from 1.11 lakh in FY24. It completed 2.13 lakh faceless assessments in FY26, down from 2.73 lakh in FY24.
