The day carries deep spiritual significance as devotees remember their ancestors and await the arrival of Goddess Durga, with the iconic radio broadcast Mahishasura Mardini accompanying the morning rituals. The occasion signals the countdown to Durga Puja and is associated with the fragrance of shiuli flowers and the arrival of autumn. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both outlets ran near-identical wish-list articles for Mahalaya 2026 on 10 October, with no news or political content. The only framing difference is that news9live.com contextualises Mahalaya as marking the end of Pitru Paksha and the beginning of Devi Paksha, giving it a slightly more informative lead, while timesnownews.com leads straight with wishes and WhatsApp statuses.
