# Maharashtra FDA issues first statewide blood bank order

On August 6, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration issued its first comprehensive order for blood banks across the state. The order mandates uniform compliance on donor screening, testing, storage, and patient safety under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. It lays down guidelines on infrastructure, personnel qualifications, donor selection, and mandatory testing for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, and Malaria. FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe said inspections revealed that statutory requirements were not fully followed. Blood banks must also update the e-RaktKosh portal daily and conduct regular self-audits.
