# Maharashtra invites global MICE tourism with new convention bureau 2026-08-22T19:32:03+00:00 | Governance | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Maharashtra government has invited organisers, delegates and industry stakeholders from across the globe to host events in the state, aiming to become a global hub for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. The invitation comes one year after the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024 was launched to establish the state as India's leading MICE destination. At the centre of this effort is the Maharashtra Convention Bureau, the first institutional body of its kind established by any Indian state government, officially announced at IMEX Frankfurt in May 2025. Headquartered in Mumbai and functioning under the additional chief secretary of tourism, the bureau provides a single-window clearance connecting government agencies with private hospitality and logistics sectors. The initial focus is on promoting MICE tourism in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The bureau has also rolled out workforce certification programs and offers targeted fiscal incentives under the 2024 policy framework. ## Indian Opinion Analysis MICE tourism is a high-value segment where each delegate spends three to five times more than a leisure traveller, directly benefiting hotels, airlines, local transport and restaurants. Maharashtra is the first state to create a dedicated convention bureau, signalling a race among states to capture this market as India positions itself as a global business events destination. The success of this push will depend on how quickly the single-window system reduces approval times, which currently take months in many cities. Key metrics to watch are the number of international events secured in the next year and the revenue generated from delegate spending. ## Coverage - freepressjournal.in Leads with government invitation and policy achievements, quotes official positively, omits any challenges or criticisms.
