# Maharashtra orders legal action against developers withholding MHADA homes

Maharashtra minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has directed officials to pursue strict legal action against developers who have not handed over homes reserved for MHADA under statutory rules. He said action should go beyond filing FIRs and could include jail, with at least 1,000 homes potentially made available for allotment. The direction came at a Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board lottery for 2,640 homes, which received 75,127 applications, or 28.54 per home. MHADA said nearly 50,000 homes had been offered through 25 lotteries in three years. Its CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal said MHADA aims to develop more than 7.5 lakh homes, while a wider Mumbai region target is 30 lakh. Group redevelopment projects across 925 acres are expected to create 30,000 MHADA homes over seven years.
