# Maharashtra to Create Special Bench for Waqf Land Disputes

Maharashtra will form a special bench to resolve disputes over alleged encroachment and ownership of Waqf land, officials said. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule ordered the move after reviewing a case involving tribal farmers’ land in Darebhangi village, Nashik. The bench will include divisional commissioners from all six regions of the state. The Maharashtra State Board of Waqf says 23,566 properties covering 92,247 acres are encroached upon, with the share reaching 60% in Marathwada. The board has pursued 1,088 cases under Section 54 of the Waqf Act, 1995. Just 21 removal orders have been executed, while 250 cases remain under review by the board and the Waqf Tribunal.
