The Delhi police have arrested a man from Burari, east Delhi, after a brief shootout, for allegedly kidnapping and murdering specially abled women, an officer said on Tuesday.
The police early on Sunday received a PCR call of a woman, speech-impaired and hard of hearing, missing from her home in Madanpur Khadar, south-east Delhi.
During the investigation, police found a CCTV footage of a man carrying the victim on his shoulder.
Later in the day, the police found her body in an abandoned shanty in the same locality.
Her body was sent to AIIMS for the post-mortem, and a case was registered, the officer said.
The police zeroed in on the accused, identified as Rajpal, a native of Etah in Uttar Pradesh and laid a trap on Monday night to nab him.
“When the police team confronted the suspect in Burari, he opened fire, and one of the bullets hit the bulletproof jacket of a sub-inspector,” the officer said, adding that in self-defence, the team returned fire and hit Rajpal in the right leg, who was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Rajpal has a history of strained personal relationships, including two failed marriages and ongoing issues with his third wife, the officer said,
The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, he added.
