Man arrested for setting Yadgir district Congress office on fire

Yadgir Town Police arrested a man for allegedly setting the District Congress Committee Office on fire, and are searching for an associate of the the prime accused.

The police arrested Shankar Gooli. Search is on for another accused, Bapugouda.

Mr. Gooli is said to have been upset after his wife, Manjula Gooli, was replaced by another woman for the president’s post of the Mahila Morcha. He set the party office, located near Kanaka Circle in Yadgir city, on fire around 1.30 a.m. on May 24, 2025.

The office bearers noticed the fire later on Saturday morning when they opened the office. Upon being informed, President Basareddy Anapur and MLA Channareddy Patil rushed to the spot and inspected the scene.

It is believed that the air cooler, sofa and other furniture worth over ₹4 lakh were gutted in the incident.

Upon verifying the footage from the CCTV camera installed at a shop opposite to the Congress office and following a complaint registered by Mr. Anapur, police arrested the Mr. Gooli, and launched a search operation for Mr. Bapugouda.

Police also seized a can filled with petrol from the spot. A case has been registered in Yadgir town police station, and further investigation is on.
