The Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Special Court on Monday (July 28, 2025) sentenced a 25-year-old man to 50 years of rigorous imprisonment for abducting and sexually assaulting a minor girl four years ago.
Special Judge Anju Meera Birla, who found the accused Sujith alias Chakkara, 25, of Poonkulam in Thiruvallam, guilty of the crime, also imposed a fine of ₹35,000, the default of which would lead to 15 months’ additional imprisonment.
According to the prosecution led by special public prosecutor Vijay Mohan R.S., the incident occurred on September 6, 2021, when the accused forcibly entered the 15-year-old survivor’s house and sexually assaulted her when she was alone. He remained in the room for eight days as he continued the abuse. The survivor, who was threatened and given false promises of marriage, did not initially disclose the abuse to anyone.
Her ordeal came to light on September 21 when the accused entered the girl’s father’s house in Nemom. He was apprehended and subsequently handed over to the Fort police.
The accused is facing a separate trial for raping the survivor while on bail in the first case. He allegedly assaulted her in a lodge in Varkala.
The prosecution examined 27 witnesses and presented 36 exhibits.
