# Manipur CM urges Meiteis to be ‘big brother’ for peace

Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Sunday called on the Meitei community to act as a 'big brother' to rebuild trust and restore peace among the state's communities. Speaking at a Tiranga Rally in Imphal, he said Manipur's progress depends on unity and warned against elements trying to inflame tensions. Singh highlighted that the state's territorial integrity was historically safeguarded by collective efforts of all communities, recalling that the first Speaker of Manipur's assembly in 1947 was a Paite tribal leader. He also referred to a recent bomb blast in Bishnupur that killed two children, alleging that those opposed to peace were responsible.
