# Mehbooba urges Centre to uphold Constitution’s vision

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on August 15 urged the BJP-led Centre to reflect on whether India has fulfilled the Constitution’s vision. Speaking after the Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, she responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for political parties to support women’s reservation in Parliament and State assemblies without making it a political dispute. Ms Mufti said Parliament had already passed the women’s reservation Bill in 2023 and that it now needed implementation. She also said the Constitution envisaged freedom over personal choices such as attire and food, along with justice and no discrimination based on caste, creed or colour. Both Greater Kashmir and The Hindu carry the remarks.
