The Union Home Ministry has banned new solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy projects within 1 km of India’s Line of Control, Line of Actual Control and International Border, citing national security concerns. Projects between 1 km and 50 km from the border will need MHA security clearance on a case-by-case basis, and those within 20 km will also require a Defence Ministry no-objection certificate. The guidelines restrict foreign workers from neighbouring countries, cap building heights in sensitive zones, and mandate anti-drone systems at project sites. Existing clearances are valid.
