Doctors had once expected him to live only until 12. Vandeweert became one of the oldest known people living with the rare genetic disorder, which causes rapid ageing and usually shortens life expectancy to around 15 years, according to the Mayo Clinic. There is no known cure. Vandeweert built a following of more than 90,000 across Instagram, YouTube and Twitch, combining personal posts with gaming content. He published a memoir at 15 and appeared with his sister Amber, who also has progeria, in the documentary How To Be Alive: Amber and Michiel. Belgian football club KRC Genk and fans paid tribute to him.
