Most come from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. They work nine-hour shifts while remaining connected to families and farms back home. Contractors have provided bunk beds, sanitation, drinking water, separate kitchens, dining halls, medical facilities, CCTV, emergency systems and recreation areas. Workers still describe separation from their families as the hardest part of migration. Larsen and Toubro, which is implementing the project, says workers undergo medical checks, safety induction and regular training. Its occupational safety manager says the project has recorded four million safe work hours and complied with environmental and social safeguards.
