A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Shamshabad police for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl sleeping under a flyover late on Monday.
The accused, Sanjay Paramal alias Irfan Hussain, a labourer from Gujarat, currently residing in Hubbali, Karnataka, had come to Hyderabad for work. Police said he briefly interacted with the girl and her family, who live on the streets, earlier in the evening on July 21.
“He returned around midnight when the family was asleep, took the girl behind a pillar of the flyover and sexually assaulted her. He fled when she began crying,” said Shamshabad Inspector K. Balaraju.
The girl alerted her family soon after.
The girl lives with her parents, elder sister and brother-in-law, all ragpickers, who were sleeping under the flyover at the time of the crime.
A case was registered following a complaint, and the accused was traced and arrested. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
