The academy, started with national coach Vijay Sharma, trains girls aged eight to 14. Around 20 trainees are from Assam and 20 from Manipur. Others come from Jammu, Maharashtra and other states. Chanu recently won gold in Glasgow after finishing fourth at Paris 2024 by one kilogram. She has won three Commonwealth titles and returned from injury. Her next stated target is the Asian Games.
