The July 31 deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR) for assessment year (AY) 2026-27 has passed, but taxpayers still have several options to comply. NDTV Profit reports that belated returns (ITR for those who missed the original deadline) can be filed until December 31, 2025, with a late fee. Revised returns, for taxpayers who want to correct errors in an already filed ITR, can also be submitted by December 31, 2025. Additionally, an updated return (ITR-U) is available up to March 31, 2027, for those who missed both the original and belated deadlines, though with higher fees. These deadlines apply to individual taxpayers and most entities for the financial year 2024-25.
