Corroboration: 3 independent outlets

Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was on Wednesday, 7 October 2026 appointed cultural advisor to the West Bengal government with the rank of a cabinet minister. The appointment was made by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department with immediate effect, according to a government notification. Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the decision. Chakraborty joined the BJP in 2021 and has been a prominent campaigner for the party in West Bengal. His appointment will remain in force until further orders.

## Indian Opinion Analysis

All three outlets report the appointment as a straight factual announcement, with no critical or supportive framing. Hindustan Times and India TV lead with the official notification and the chief minister's announcement, while Livemint's piece is an entertainment-focussed report that still sticks to the same facts. None of the sources question the appointment, discuss its political context, or cite any opposition reaction. The uniform coverage suggests the news was delivered via an official release or agency copy without independent editorial framing.
