State BJP general secretary Delson Notlia said at a press conference that the Bill was introduced to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of foreign contributions against national security. Notlia said Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured a delegation that the proposed amendments would not target Christians and would not have retrospective effect. Shah noted that of the Rs 17,000 crore in foreign contributions India received in 2025-26, Christian organisations got less than 15 per cent. Church leaders have protested Section 16A, fearing seizure of properties.
