Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk on Thursday agreed to deepen cooperation in defence, space and nuclear energy, and set a target of doubling bilateral trade to $10 billion by 2030. The two leaders held talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on the second day of Tusk's three-day visit, the first by a Polish prime minister to India in 16 years. Modi invited Polish companies to co-develop and co-produce in strategic sectors, while Tusk described Modi as a 'beacon of hope' in times of global uncertainty and said the two countries had no conflicts of interest. The talks covered defence industrial collaboration, space technology, renewable energy and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. A joint statement proposed a Defence Industry Dialogue and a dialogue on counter-terrorism. Both sides called for early signing of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, scheduled for 16 December. Tusk is due to travel to Bengaluru on 23 October for business forums focused on IT and space sectors.

## Indian Opinion Analysis

The pro-government framing in outlets such as India TV and DD News led with Modi's announcements and Tusk's warm praise, while critical outlets like The Hindu focused on Poland's concerns about technology leakages to Russia and the confidentiality agreement on classified information. The Indian Express foregrounded Poland's finance minister pitching the defence industry and acknowledging the need to build trust given India's historical ties with Russia. Hindustan Times balanced the defence cooperation with the note on Polish firms' concerns about India's Russia links. The uniform wire copy from PTI and ANI carried the official statements neutrally. The differences show that while both governments projected a frictionless partnership, the independent accounts gave space to the trust deficit on defence ties and the limits of the FTA on dairy and poultry, which the official framing omitted. The concrete next step is the signing of the classified information agreement, which the sources say is expected soon.
